7/26/2023 0 Comments Sam wilson captain america uniform![]() ![]() The country is as divided as it’s ever been, and Steve is one of a kind he’s a unifying figure, someone we can all look up to, someone we can all put our faith in." "If you’re liking what we’re doing in Captain America: Sam Wilson, with a more topical, of-the-moment take, we’ve got a lot more of that coming your way but if you’re looking for that classic, timeless version, the one that’s steeped in the Greatest Generation with Cap fighting the face of true evil, now we’ve got that for you as well. What's curious, though, is how Spencer describes the sorts of stories he'll be telling with Steve Rogers, the original Cap, and how he talks about him. Some stories are more successful than others, but it's very of the moment. Both will be written by Nick Spencer, the guy who's been writing Sam Wilson as Cap for a few months now, telling fun stories that double as gentle satires ribbing extremely cartoonish conservatives and the like. More interesting is the fact the tonal difference between the comics. When you are telling one long ongoing story for decades, crazy stuff is bound to happen now and again. Superhero comics are, essentially, soap operas, but with lasers and shit-and like soap operas, shocking deaths, disappearances, and resurrections are all par for the course. First, though, a few things you should know: One, this sort of thing happens in comic books all the time. There are some interesting implications to this, not all of them good. What's that? Two Captain Americas? (Captains America?) However, this spring, Sam Wilson will no longer be the sole Captain America of the Marvel comic book universe, because Steve Rogers will be making a glorious return as Captain America. Which means, for the last year, Marvel's comic books have had something kind of special: a black Captain America. ![]() Been that way for almost 75 years, too! Except, for the last year, he hasn't been, because for the last year, the original Captain America-his actual name is Steve Rogers-has turned into an old man (comic books, don't ask) and handed the job over to long-time partner Sam Wilson (formerly the Falcon, currently also a movie character played by Anthony Mackie in the Marvel movies). You know Captain America, right? Wears the American flag as a uniform, carries an indestructible shield, is played by Chris Evans in a bunch of movies? In the comic books, he kinda looks like Chris Evans too: Square-jawed, blue-eyed, red-blooded American White Guy.
